Let’s Unify Rather than Divide
"On May 25, Minneapolis police officers arrested George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, after a deli employee called 911, accusing him of buying cigarettes with a counterfeit $20 bill. Seventeen minutes after the first squad car arrived at the scene, Mr. Floyd was unconscious and pinned beneath three police officers, showing no signs of life." — The New York Times, 5/31/2020
This, in addition to ongoing documented racial profiling experienced by so many people of color, is heartbreaking. This is a difficult time, magnified by the challenges and losses of an ongoing global pandemic and the sheer frequency with which racial injustice repeats itself. We say that racism has no place in our society, and yet it persists. I don’t have the answers to solve these issues, but I hope that acknowledging them and increasing awareness will lead to more understanding and unity.
Diversity is one of our core values at Caktus — it’s at the heart of who we are. We stand with peaceful protesters to denounce racism and atrocities including George Floyd’s death, and to hold those responsible accountable.
While I’m proud of Caktus’ history of diversity and community involvement, I feel we can do more. Black Lives Matter to us. We will do more to apply our skills and experience to increase transparency, awareness, and accountability. I am encouraging internal discussions on this front, and I encourage you to reach out as well. I hope that by doing so we can come together to start new conversations, find ways to support one another, and be of greater service to our community.
Sincerely,
Tobias McNulty
